Ableism: What Counselors Need to Know
Ableism is discrimination or prejudice against people with disabilities, often rooted in the belief that "typical" abilities are superior, and that disabled people are less valuable or need to be "fixed." Counselors have an obligation to make sure they are knowledgeable about ableism and it's impacts on their clients.
